Getting Closer . . . . to a New Bike!
The Vectrix price has dropped from $11,500 to about $9000.

Because of this, I took another test drive, this time mostly on the freeway. (My job is only freeway-vehicle accessible.)

It rocked. And the wife loved.

Checking out financing options tomorrow.

This video is a bit irritating, but has the best shots of the bike.

I'd like to see a top speed on these things around 75 or 80 for highway...

A 50 mile range doesn't bother me as much - the obvious issue here is vacation-style driving. Aside from those once a year ventures they would serve all of my daily driving just fine. The bottom line is I won't be spending $8,000-$10,000 on a motorcycle/scooter which I can't ride in the harsh winters where I live.

The main requirements for my transportation are 40+ mile range, and at least 75 mph top speed so I can drive up to my parents every now and then.

Sounds like it might meet your needs then?
Cool. =]

The range thing kills it for me.
*waiting for Li-Ion*

I thought they said top speed was like 62 mph :( too slow.

Mmm.. yeah, barely rates the slow lane on the freeway.
=/

Or more?

The main limitations with the MaxiScooter are the range and power delivery. Shove more batteries under the hood, embiggenate the motor (by going with a more complex belt system and moving the motor forward of the rear wheel) and you've got your wish.

Then again, you could go faster, like the Killacycle (in the video above): 8.168 seconds in the quarter mile. That's not the fastest it's gone.

Bill Dubé, Killacycle builder, once said of electric vehicles in general that there are three things everyone wants to be decent: Speed, range and price. Given today's technology, you can only pick two.

But that is changing. Slowly.

Cool! Here in Florida one of the best things I've heard in years is that before you can ride a motorcycle (and I would assume a street scooter) you have to go through a motorcycle class to learn how to handle it. The class is only about 8 hours long but given how many clueless people are wanting to drve bikes (yes I rode when I was younger) I think its a great idea!

I wish I felt I could do it, but my reactions are not up to bike riding anymore. You have to KNOW you are not seen and always be prepared for the person who turns into you and in Florida with our older drivers its just too much of a reaction driven item for me to be able to handle it. :(

Sweet, good luck! I'd love to get one - if I needed one! Right now I walk 5 minutes to work and need to go further afield about once a month!
